Life without a phone

The telephone is a super wonderfull invention.
I know that I am stating the obvious here, but while being out of contact with loved ones by staying on another continent, I have come to appreciate this mode of communication a whole bunch more.
I caught up all the gossip and what not in about 20 min of talking to one friend back home, where it would have taken multiple emails or letters to find out the exact same info.
My mobile phone stolen from my possesion along with a whole butt load of other stuff back home and I was minus a means of communication for nearly two weeks. Apart from my social life taking a dive into the abiss, I was plunged into quite a rutt, due to the fact that I couldnt get hold of people, not to make plans, but just to talk and catch up with what had been going on in peoples lives. Being an only child has forced me to rely on other people for entertainment and just plain and simple emotional stability.Hence the fact that a phone helps me keep my sanity while living alone.
Big up to the phone companies in South Africa. I mean there are only 3 services, but atleast they give freakin reception nealry everywhere in the country. Granted American is WAY bigger than RSA and one would think, that due to the fact that they are a 'first world country' and all, they would be able to supply cell phone coverage to most places. Alas, this is not the case. The places which are not in the middle of no where should by rights have full signal. You should not have to walk to the road in the snow in PJ's to be able to received a freaking text.
I mean is that too much to ask???
Viva la telephones, may they have a long and prosperous life.
